Airships in Pontedera

Exhibition

Pontedera, Italy (Nov. 2018)

On November 24, 2018, the Piaggio Museum in Pontedera hosted the presentation of the book Airships | Dirigibili: 100 Years of Airships, An Illustrated History, curated by Max Pinucci and organized by Hun in the Sun. The event offered attendees the opportunity to explore an exhibition of the original illustrations from the book, a visual narrative that celebrates the evolution of airships, from their origins to the present day. The illustrations, accompanied by historical photographs, infographics, and models, explored the technology, design, and cultural impact of airships.

A particular focus was given to the local history of Pontedera, with an in-depth look at the hangar that, from 1916 to 1939, hosted significant airships such as the SCA N-1 (Norge) and the Esperia (formerly LZ120 Bodensee). During the presentation, Michele Quirici and Paolo Gori contributed with historical insights into the role of the Pontedera area in the evolution of aeronautical technology. The event combined history, innovation, and culture, celebrating the connection between the past and the future of airships, while solidifying Pontedera as an important reference point in Italian aeronautics.
